We Are Hiring: Human Resources and Payroll Manager

Progress Group is seeking a Human Resources and Payroll Manager to join our growing team in our Oakville office! 

Job Summary

Performs a wide range of employment-related functions including, but not limited to, payroll processing, benefit administration, personnel file maintenance, and employee relations. Ensures legal compliance with all employment policies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee payroll functions and company benefit administration
  • Process payroll including verification of timecards and payroll reports as well as ensuring accuracy of payroll deductions
  • Prepare payroll journal entries
  • Resolve payroll issues with employees
  • Assist with the transfer, promotion, and termination of employees
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
  • Ensure legal compliance with all policies, procedures, and related to payroll
  • Maintain completeness and confidentiality of employee records and files
  • Enter data into various employee record databases
  • Assist with various other HR functions, including training, recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Proactively manage A/P and A/R process
  • Post and reconcile client payments
  • Work with internal Administration team to efficiently manage office administrative matters

Education/License/Experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources field (preferred)
  • 1 – 3 years payroll and benefit administration related work experience
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification (preferred)

Job Skills required

  • Working knowledge of all human resource functions and applicable legal regulations
  • Experience with payroll processing and benefit administration
  • Outstanding English with strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve problems
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with emphasis in Excel
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online
  • Fastidious attention to detail and a focus on confidentiality
  • Customer service mindset
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Work independently and in a team environment
  • Proven ability to multitask and effortlessly shift between client-facing and internal service
  • Previous experience in an accounting office is an asset

Job Type: Full-time


  • $50,000-$60,000 per year

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday to Friday – 9:00AM-5:00PM
